Welcome to the Year 9 Options Event
We are pleased to inform you that the time has come to carefully think about and decide which subjects you will study at GCSE level in Years 10 and 11. In Years 10 and 11, you will study English language, English literature, Maths, Double Science, and Core PE as part of your core curriculum. You will then have the opportunity to select four option subjects to study. You must first select a Humanities option (History or Geography). You can choose both History and Geography, but this will count as two of your option choices. Some students will be required to study Spanish, as a Modern Foreign Language, to provide an Ebacc qualification. You should then choose subjects you wish to study from the option subjects. You will be asked for your first, second and third choices within each option block. All students will have access to the full range of course options, so we highly recommend looking through all the course details on our website first before making a final decision. Options subjects include:
*Students will be invited to study Triple Science based on their attainment in Year 8 and 9 due to the increased workload and higher grade boundaries. Triple Science requires additional curriculum time, so this will count as one of your option choices.
This website is designed to provide you with an outline of each of the subject options available to you. These options are designed to keep your learning broad and balanced, whilst also preparing you for your next steps after school. As you go through the process of making your subject choices, we recommend that you spend time exploring and discussing these options with your family. If you would like any support from your subject teachers or Personal Tutors, please contact them via email at the Academy. These are important choices that you will make, and they should be decided considering your strengths, interests as well as your future career path. If you are motivated and enjoy what you are studying, you are far more likely to achieve well over the next two years.
The online options form will go live on 18th January 2024 and will need to be completed by 2nd February 2024 by 6pm. You will receive a letter with details on how to access the online form. If you have any problems accessing the options form, please contact the Academy as soon as possible. Option subjects are NOT allocated on a first come first served basis.
